Persistent rumors claim that somewhere in North America, a magical stand of fully mature American chestnuts thrives, proving that blight has a natural enemy. Not so. There are no such chestnut groves. There are, however, some trees that have remained untouched by blight — but their day will come. Still, we treasure these trees because they will help us provide the necessary genetic diversity in the coming decades of restoration.
